Woe to every gossiper and slanderer.

Had it not been for Allah´s forgiveness and mercy to you in this world and the Hereafter, a great punishment would have touched you for what you were involved in.

You were talking about it on your tongues and you were talking about something of which you had no knowledge. You thought it a simple thing. But with Allah it is great.

"When you heard it, you said, "It is not right for us to talk about it. You are the Great. Should you not have said, "This is a great slander"?"
The Light/24:17
Allah admonishes you so that you may not repeat the like. If you are believers.

Those who slander the believing women who are chaste and unaware (of evil) will be cursed in this world and the Hereafter, and for them will be a great punishment.

Those who insult the believing men and women unjustly have borne a slander and a manifest sin.
