The Coalition - 33:19 They are stingy in their dealings with you. When danger comes, you see them looking at you with their eyes wide with fear, like one who has fallen into a faint of death. And when the danger passes, they hurt you with sharp tongues, being fond of wealth. Such people are not believers. That is why Allah makes their deeds vain. This is easy for Allah.
In the context of verses 14, 15...20; Hypocrites change their ranks according to the situation and their interests:
The Women/4:138 Give the hypocrites glad tidings of a painful torment.
بَشِّرِ الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ بِاَنَّ لَهُمْ عَذَاباً اَل۪يماًۙ
The Women/4:139 Those who associate with the disbelievers apart from the believers. Do they seek honor with them? But the honor belongs to Allah.
اَلَّذ۪ينَ يَتَّخِذُونَ الْكَافِر۪ينَ اَوْلِيَٓاءَ مِنْ دُونِ الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَۜ اَيَبْتَغُونَ عِنْدَهُمُ الْعِزَّةَ فَاِنَّ الْعِزَّةَ لِلّٰهِ جَم۪يعاًۜ
The Women/4:141 "They keep watch over you. When a victory comes to you from Allah, they say, "Were we not with you?"And when it is the turn of the disbelievers to win, they say, "Did we not protect you from the believers by supporting you?"On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will judge between you. Allah will not give the disbelievers the opportunity to rule over the believers."
اَلَّذ۪ينَ يَتَرَبَّصُونَ بِكُمْۚ فَاِنْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فَتْحٌ مِنَ اللّٰهِ قَالُٓوا اَلَمْ نَكُنْ مَعَكُمْۘ وَاِنْ كَانَ لِلْكَافِر۪ينَ نَص۪يبٌۙ قَالُٓوا اَلَمْ نَسْتَحْوِذْ عَلَيْكُمْ وَنَمْنَعْكُمْ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَۜ فَاللّٰهُ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِۜ وَلَنْ يَجْعَلَ اللّٰهُ لِلْكَافِر۪ينَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ سَب۪يلاً۟
The Repentance/9:107 "There are those who use the mosque to cause harm, to practice disbelief, to drive a wedge between the believers, and to provide a lookout for those who fought against Allah and His messenger before. They swear, "Our aim is only good."Allah is a witness to their falsehood."
وَالَّذ۪ينَ اتَّخَذُوا مَسْجِداً ضِرَاراً وَكُفْراً وَتَفْر۪يقاً بَيْنَ الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ وَاِرْصَاداً لِمَنْ حَارَبَ اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُ مِنْ قَبْلُۜ وَلَيَحْلِفُنَّ اِنْ اَرَدْنَٓا اِلَّا الْحُسْنٰىۜ وَاللّٰهُ يَشْهَدُ اِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ
The Coalition/33:12 "The hypocrites and those whose hearts were diseased were saying: "The promise of Allah and His messenger to us is nothing but a pipe dream!"
وَاِذْ يَقُولُ الْمُنَافِقُونَ وَالَّذ۪ينَ ف۪ي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ مَا وَعَدَنَا اللّٰهُ وَرَسُولُـهُٓ اِلَّا غُرُوراً
The Coalition/33:13 "A group of them were saying, "People of Yathrib, you cannot hold on any longer; go back."The other group of them were asking permission from the Prophet, saying, "Our houses are unprotected,"even though their houses were protected. Their whole purpose was to escape."
وَاِذْ قَالَتْ طَٓائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ يَٓا اَهْلَ يَثْرِبَ لَا مُقَامَ لَكُمْ فَارْجِعُواۚ وَيَسْتَأْذِنُ فَر۪يقٌ مِنْهُمُ النَّبِيَّ يَقُولُونَ اِنَّ بُيُوتَنَا عَوْرَةٌ وَمَا هِيَ بِعَوْرَةٍۜ اِنْ يُر۪يدُونَ اِلَّا فِرَاراً
The Coalition/33:14 If it had been occupied and they had been asked to join the enemy, they would have joined them without hesitation.
وَلَوْ دُخِلَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ اَقْطَارِهَا ثُمَّ سُئِلُوا الْفِتْنَةَ لَاٰتَوْهَا وَمَا تَلَبَّثُوا بِهَٓا اِلَّا يَس۪يراً
The Women/4:72 "There are those among you who are slow. If a calamity befalls you, he says, "Allah has been good to me so that I did not fall a martyr with them"."
وَاِنَّ مِنْكُمْ لَمَنْ لَيُبَطِّئَنَّۚ فَاِنْ اَصَابَتْكُمْ مُص۪يبَةٌ قَالَ قَدْ اَنْعَمَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيَّ اِذْ لَمْ اَكُنْ مَعَهُمْ شَه۪يداً
The Women/4:73 "And if a favor from Allah befalls you, he says, "I wish I had been with them and had won a great success,"as if there had been no friendship between you before."
وَلَئِنْ اَصَابَكُمْ فَضْلٌ مِنَ اللّٰهِ لَيَقُولَنَّ كَاَنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُ مَوَدَّةٌ يَا لَيْتَن۪ي كُنْتُ مَعَهُمْ فَاَفُوزَ فَوْزاً عَظ۪يماً
The Women/4:91 You will find another group who wish to stand in safety both with you and with their own people. Whenever they are called to turmoil, they plunge into it. If they do not leave you alone and do not want to make peace and do not remove their hands from you, you may kill them wherever you meet them. We have given you clear authority against such people.
سَتَجِدُونَ اٰخَر۪ينَ يُر۪يدُونَ اَنْ يَأْمَنُوكُمْ وَيَأْمَنُوا قَوْمَهُمْۜ كُلَّمَا رُدُّٓوا اِلَى الْفِتْنَةِ اُرْكِسُوا ف۪يهَاۚ فَاِنْ لَمْ يَعْتَزِلُوكُمْ وَيُلْقُٓوا اِلَيْكُمُ السَّلَمَ وَيَكُفُّٓوا اَيْدِيَهُمْ فَخُذُوهُمْ وَاقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ ثَقِفْتُمُوهُمْۜ وَاُو۬لٰٓئِكُمْ جَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَاناً مُب۪يناً۟
The Poets/26:225 Do you not see them running in every valley?
اَلَمْ تَرَ اَنَّهُمْ ف۪ي كُلِّ وَادٍ يَه۪يمُونَۙ
The Table Spread/5:52 "You will see those in whose hearts is a disease, wandering among them, saying: "We fear that some calamity may befall us. It may happen that Allah will bring victory or a command from His side, and they will regret what they have been concealing in their hearts."
فَتَرَى الَّذ۪ينَ ف۪ي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ يُسَارِعُونَ ف۪يهِمْ يَقُولُونَ نَخْشٰٓى اَنْ تُص۪يبَنَا دَٓائِرَةٌۜ فَعَسَى اللّٰهُ اَنْ يَأْتِيَ بِالْفَتْحِ اَوْ اَمْرٍ مِنْ عِنْدِه۪ فَيُصْبِحُوا عَلٰى مَٓا اَسَرُّوا ف۪ٓي اَنْفُسِهِمْ نَادِم۪ينَۜ
The Table Spread/5:53 "Then the believers will say, "Are these those who swear by Allah with all their might that they are with you?"Their efforts have been in vain and they have suffered loss."
وَيَقُولُ الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُٓوا اَهٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ الَّذ۪ينَ اَقْسَمُوا بِاللّٰهِ جَهْدَ اَيْمَانِهِمْۙ اِنَّهُمْ لَمَعَكُمْۜ حَبِطَتْ اَعْمَالُهُمْ فَاَصْبَحُوا خَاسِر۪ينَ
The Repentance/9:56 They swear by Allah that they are of you, but they are not of you, but they are a people who create discord.
وَيَحْلِفُونَ بِاللّٰهِ اِنَّهُمْ لَمِنْكُمْۜ وَمَا هُمْ مِنْكُمْ وَلٰكِنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ يَفْرَقُونَ
The Repentance/9:62 They swear by Allah to please you. If they really believe, they should know that Allah and His messenger are more worthy to be pleased.
يَحْلِفُونَ بِاللّٰهِ لَكُمْ لِيُرْضُوكُمْۚ وَاللّٰهُ وَرَسُولُـهُٓ اَحَقُّ اَنْ يُرْضُوهُ اِنْ كَانُوا مُؤْمِن۪ينَ
The Spider/29:10 "There are some of the people who say, "We believe in Allah,"but when they suffer hardship in the way of Allah, they take the oppression and torture of the people as Allah´s punishment. But when a victory comes to you from your Lord, they say, "We were with you."Does not Allah know the most secret thoughts of everyone?"
وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَقُولُ اٰمَنَّا بِاللّٰهِ فَاِذَٓا اُو۫ذِيَ فِي اللّٰهِ جَعَلَ فِتْنَةَ النَّاسِ كَعَذَابِ اللّٰهِۜ وَلَئِنْ جَٓاءَ نَصْرٌ مِنْ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ اِنَّا كُنَّا مَعَكُمْۜ اَوَلَيْسَ اللّٰهُ بِاَعْلَمَ بِمَا ف۪ي صُدُورِ الْعَالَم۪ينَ
The Spider/29:11 Surely Allah will reveal the believers and the hypocrites.
وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ اللّٰهُ الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ

اَشِحَّةً عَلَيْكُمْۚ فَاِذَا جَٓاءَ الْخَوْفُ رَاَيْتَهُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ اِلَيْكَ تَدُورُ اَعْيُنُهُمْ كَالَّذ۪ي يُغْشٰى عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْمَوْتِۚ فَاِذَا ذَهَبَ الْخَوْفُ سَلَقُوكُمْ بِاَلْسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍ اَشِحَّةً عَلَى الْخَيْرِۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا فَاَحْبَطَ اللّٰهُ اَعْمَالَهُمْۜ وَكَانَ ذٰلِكَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ يَس۪يراً
The Victory/48:15 "Those who have fallen behind in the war will say when you go to take the spoils, "Let us come with you". They want to change the Word of Allah. Say, "You will not follow us. This is Allah´s prior decision."Then they will say, "Indeed, you do not like us."Indeed, they understand very little."
سَيَقُولُ الْمُخَلَّفُونَ اِذَا انْطَلَقْتُمْ اِلٰى مَغَانِمَ لِتَأْخُذُوهَا ذَرُونَا نَتَّبِعْكُمْۚ يُر۪يدُونَ اَنْ يُبَدِّلُوا كَلَامَ اللّٰهِۜ قُلْ لَنْ تَتَّبِعُونَا كَذٰلِكُمْ قَالَ اللّٰهُ مِنْ قَبْلُۚ فَسَيَقُولُونَ بَلْ تَحْسُدُونَنَاۜ بَلْ كَانُوا لَا يَفْقَهُونَ اِلَّا قَل۪يلاً
The Banishment/59:11 "Have you not noticed those who are hypocrites? The disbelievers among the people of the Book say to their friends, "If you are driven out, we will go out with you, and we will not obey anyone against you. If you are fought, we will certainly support you."Allah bears witness that they are liars."
اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذ۪ينَ نَافَقُوا يَقُولُونَ لِاِخْوَانِهِمُ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ اَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَئِنْ اُخْرِجْتُمْ لَنَخْرُجَنَّ مَعَكُمْ وَلَا نُط۪يعُ ف۪يكُمْ اَحَداً اَبَداًۚ وَاِنْ قُوتِلْتُمْ لَنَنْصُرَنَّكُمْۜ وَاللّٰهُ يَشْهَدُ اِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ
